Cellist Yi Qun Xu, a native of China, has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician across the United States. Yi Qun studies with Heifetz faculty member Timothy Eddy at the Juilliard School where she is the proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. YiQun attended the Institute in the summer of 2014, and has subsequently been both a Heifetz On Tour artist and an Artist in Residence. Yi Qun was a BM candidate at the Colburn Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Ronald Leonard. She graduated with honors from the New England Conservatory Preparatory at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts where she was a student of world-renowned cellist Laurence Lesser, president emeritus of the New England Conservatory.
Yi Qun has won top prizes in China’s national cello competitions as well as second prize at the Juilliard Concerto Competition, first prizes in the 2008 Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition in Croatia, and the 2010 ASTA National Solo Competition. In addition to her time at the Heifetz Institute, YiQun has appeared at such summer festivals and programs as the Perlman Music Program, the Four Seasons Music Festival, Kneisel Hall, Music@Menlo, the Orford Arts Center, and the Olympic Music Festival.
