2011 Summer Internship Opportunities

ASSISTANT ARTISTIC ADMINISTRATOR

Filled for 2011
$2,500 stipend
June 16 to August 10, 2011 

Reports to Artistic Administrator. Responsibilities to be assigned by the Artistic Administrator include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the set-up and tear down of the institute (must be physically capable of lifting heavy boxes, desks, various chairs, moving pianos)
  • Able to act professionally and courteously in a fast paced office, including but not limited to: dealing with student issues as they arise, fielding faculty requests, copying and distributing music in a timely manner, answering phones, relaying information to colleagues, and completing or updating documents quickly.
  • Aid in concert and evaluation production. This includes attending faculty rehearsals, transporting equipment to and from the concert hall, setting up and tearing down the concert hall before and after concerts, acting as stage crew during concerts, and handing out programs.
  • Assist with the Institute and concert publicity, including weekly press releases during the Institute and programming for Wolfeboro Community TV broadcasts.
  • Liaison with video and audio recording personnel.
  • Administer community outreach activities: coordinate with local organizations for off-campus student performances and workshops at churches, retirement centers, area nursing homes, and local theaters. This includes scheduling the concerts, creating and printing programs, and transporting students to and from outreach events.
  • Assist around the office as needed.

 

STUDENT ADMINISTRATOR

$2500 stipend

June 16 to August 10, 2011

Works closely with senior staff including the Dean of Students and the Executive Director. Must be available when necessary; able to work independently and as a part of a team; and maintain a positive and professional demeanor and communication with students, parents, staff, faculty, and community members at all times.
Responsibilities

  • Safety and security of all students
  • Health and welfare of all students
  • Assist the Dean of Students with student residential life, activities, and events.
  • Reports to the Dean of Students and Executive Director.
  • Assist the Dean of Students with the supervision of dorm counselors.
  • Ability to use your best judgments and, under the discretion of the Dean of Students and Executive Director, assume leadership position when necessary.

Duties

  • Provide substantial support to the Dean of Students with student registration, orientation, and departure
  • Assist the Dean of Students with logistics of welcoming and giving an orientation to five Dorm Counselors
  • Familiarize oneself with the campus, studios, dorm buildings, Institute rules and regulations, and locations of medical facilities
  • Facilitate smooth communication between the Dean of Students and Dorm Counselors, students, and Brewster staff i.e. school nurse.
  • Assist the Dean of Students with supervising and giving instructions to Dorm Counselors
  • Provide necessary student information to other departments in the office, faculty, and Brewster Academy
  • Assist the Dean of Students with creating Student Life surveys, announcements, signs, and forms
  • Collect and file student information and manage all students’ folders
  • Prepare and co-lead weekly meetings with all Institute students
  • Prepare and co-lead weekly meetings with Dorm Counselors
  • Help schedule and supervise student recreational activities. This includes posting sign-ups when having a limited number of spaces, reserving transportation, contacting possible vendors or instructors for activities, setting up before and taking down after the activities.
  • Coordinate with campus Department of Security and supervise dormitory fire drills
  • Perform scheduled dorm checks under the instruction of the Dean of Students
  • Participate in trainings (i.e. bus and medical) that are necessary to perform the job
  • Participate in staff meetings as needed
  • Observe student behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
  • Assist with office set-up and tear-down

Required and Preferred Qualities:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required
Graduate degree is preferred
Valid driver’s license

 

DORM COUNSELOR

$2,000 stipend
June 21 to August 6, 2011 

Reports to Dean of Students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Know whereabouts of each student in assigned dorm at all times
  • Ensure that students are present at scheduled Institute obligations
  • Locate students when needed
  • Keep students' morale up; identify and assist students who are lonely, homesick, ill, emotionally distressed, or in need of support from a positive role-model
  • Coordinate/Administer recreational activities
  • Coordinate/Administer student arrival and departure; dorm check-in/check-out
  • Set a good example for students including cleanliness, punctuality, manners and appropriate language
  • Follow Institute rules pertaining to tobacco, alcohol, and drugs
  • Enforce respect for and proper treatment of personal property, Institute equipment, and facilities
  • Observe student behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
  • Report infractions of Institute/Brewster Academy rules immediately to the Dean of Students
  • Manage personal time-off in accordance with Institute personnel policy and philosophy
  • Maintain good public relations with parents
  • Submit Institute evaluations on time; evaluate current season and make recommendations for following season (end of season evaluations)
  • Communicate clearly and work with groups participating and provide necessary instruction to students
  • Must possess visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity
  • Ability to manage groups of students ages 14-25 in various situations (including outdoors) is required
  • Other assigned projects as needed

OFFICE ASSISTANT

June 16 to August 10, 2011 

Reports to Office Staff. Responsibilities to be assigned by Office Staff include but are not limited to:

  • Manage copying and distributing student concert DVDs and CDs
  • Organize Institute's merchandise supplies
  • Assist with office operations
  • Assist with setting up office, class rooms, practice rooms, concerts, and other events
  • Other assigned projects as needed (including some occasional heavy lifting)
