Beethoven’s birthday is considered an important holiday by Schroeder. He first celebrated it in 1953, then celebrated it almost every year afterwards, on December 16, the birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven.
So we’ll take our cue from Schroeder, and share some of our favorite Beethoven moments from Heifetz 2015. First, from a Heifetz Sunday Matinee concert, violinist Geneva Lewis and pianist Dina Vainshtein play the magnificent Rondo-Finale of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D:
Next, violinists Rachell Wong and Anna Tsukervanik, violist Xue “Annie” Ding, and cellist Nicholas Mariscal, all members of the inaugural Ashkenasi/Kirshbaum Chamber Music Seminar at the 2015 Heifetz International Music Institute, perform the final two movements (“Scherzando vivace” and “Finale: Allegro”) from Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 12 in E-flat, Op. 127.
