Kaplan creates here an entire world of feeling and emotion. For him, these are obviously not just Bach pieces to be played but major, monumental structures to be explored and savored, note by note and phrase by phrase. – “Mark Kaplan Pierces the Heart of Bach” – The Art Music Lounge.
As our “Bach and Shamrocks” tour winds up today with a late-afternoon performance at the Club at Ironwood, (which not only begins with some music by J.S., but also includes some freshly-brewed “HeifetzBach” beer on tap), our Video of the Week’s celebrates Bach’s March 21st birthday with a memorable performance by Heifetz faculty member – and noted Bach interpreter – Mark Kaplan.
Fresh off of his acclaimed recording of the complete (and devilishly difficult) Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, Kaplan honored the Institute’s Founder & Artistic Director during our 20th Anniversary Season with the “Sonata DAH” – four of Daniel A. Heifetz‘s favorite movements from the six solo works presented as one suite. The performance took place at the 2016 Heifetz Institute “Festival of Concerts,” taking place at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Va. Check out our entire J.S. Bach playlist of videos here.
