It is with the present work that all thoughts are banished of the description carried in published editions of most Classical-era sonatas: “For the pianoforte with accompaniment of the violin”.

Our Video of the Week features Heifetz 2016 student (who’s returning for the summer of 2017!) Liucong Pamela Feng in a fresh and occasionally frenetic musical conversation with faculty pianist Beilin Han. Together, the duo demonstrate the evolution of the violin sonata in Beethoven’s hands into as full-blown dialogue between two independent voices. Check out the back-and-forth between instruments in the witty Scherzo, followed by the fast-paced Finale, full of sudden stops, starts, and turns. Bravissimo, Pamela, Beilin, and Beethoven!
