What better way to point out our upcoming “April in Paris” presentations than with a few Parisian street signs? Our French-accented edition of Heifetz On Tour arrives <<pour le Week-End>> for a series of concerts in the springtime splendor of the Shenandoah Valley. You’ll hear performances either born, influenced, or otherwise reflective of the City of Light, by Heifetz artists Yaegy Park, violin; Noémie Raymond-Friset, cello (who really does have a French accent!); and faculty pianist Stefan Petrov.
Our weekend in the Valley will kick off on Saturday, April 21, as the Heifetz Institute resumes our proud partnership with the Garden Club of Virginia’s Historic Garden Week. This year’s tour, jointly hosted by the Augusta Garden Club and the Blue Ridge Garden Club, celebrates the enduring charm of country living in the Shenandoah Valley, including a stop at the historic Sugar Loaf Farms estate in Middlebrook, VA. Our Heifetz musicians will present two brief “pop up” concerts at Sugar Loaf at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Come take a drive down 151 Ferguson Lane in Middlebrook for fabulous views, beautiful gardens, plein air painting, and of course some priceless Parisian-flavored music making by our Heifetz troupe!
Later on Saturday, April 21, we’ll travel further south to Lexington, VA for our annual concert at the Heartstone Lodge & Retreat. We will start with a wine/beverage & light fare social hour at 6:00 PM, followed by the performance at 7:00 PM in Heartstone’s warm and inviting hall.
We’ll return to Staunton on Sunday, April 22 for another special Sunday Matinee at the The Club at Ironwood, the friendly, family-oriented golf, social, and recreational club with a welcoming atmosphere. The concert begins at 3:00 PM, and guests are invited to stick around for a special Sunday dinner après!
At all these locations, our “April in Paris” program will feature some of the greatest works of solo and chamber repertory by such noted French composers as Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Camille Saint-Saëns, along with those who studied, worked, lived, loved, gambled, and otherwise left their mark on the City of Light, including such diverse personalities as Fritz Kriesler, and even the Argentinian tango master Astor Piazzolla! Oh, and because this is a Heifetz concert, be on the lookout for a surprise guest artist!
