The Red Violin won composer John Corigiliano an Oscar for Best Original Movie Score, and in the process created a cottage industry for Heifetz faculty violinist Philippe Quint. who dazzled composer and critics alikes with his virtuosic performances – including the world-premiere recording – of the mettling-testing Caprices for solo violin. “In The Red Violin Caprices, content is allied to a technique making strenuous demands on the performer, notes the recording producer.”
Quint, the recipient of the so-called “Ruby” Stradavarius from the Chicago-based Stradivari Society, finds the Caprices so compelling that he commissioned a ballet to go with the music, which was premiered two years ago by two dancers of the Joffrey Ballet. New to the Heifetz faculty in 2018, Quint lets his fingers do the dancing in this breathtaking performance that marked his Heifetz Institute debut. Bravissimo!
