Ready to join our summer team? We are now accepting applications for the 2020 festival season. Available positions and descriptions are listed below. Approximate dates of employment are June 18 – August 10, 2020. A few staff may be asked to arrive earlier or later; all will depart no later than August 11.
We offer competitive pay for all summer positions, including stipends for internships. Campus housing and dining hall meals are provided as part of the compensation package for all summer staff and interns. Our internships meet the requirements of most programs resulting in college credit. International students with or seeking CPT or OPT are encouraged to apply for both internships and contract jobs. Resident Advisors live in single rooms on the student halls they are leading; other employees are housed in a staff dormitory in single, air-conditioned rooms in a central, convenient location on the campus of Mary Baldwin University. Parking is abundant and free of charge.
Being a staff member during our summer program and Festival of Concerts is an all-in proposition. Plan to work long, often demanding hours, to enjoy extraordinary camaraderie with your fellow staff members, to revel in some of the best music making going on anywhere in the world, and to gain immense practical and artistic experience.

Heifetz Institute 2020 Summer Employment Positions
Positions available: 4 + Student Life Coordinator
Heifetz Institute Resident Assistants exhibit strong leadership capabilities, social and emotional intelligence, and excellent communication skills. RAs are required to live on campus for the duration of the summer, and act as both resource and role model to students attending the summer program. Are you a skilled leader with either residence life experience or experience in a related field such as behavioral science, psychology, education, or sociology? We are also seeking a qualified individual to act as Student Life Coordinator, overseeing residential staff, coordinating student activities, and enhancing the student experience.

Our multimedia producers are creative leaders in their industry. Producing outstanding content for our YouTube channel (with 26,000 subscribers and over 5.3 million views as of 12/28/19) and other social media outlets is their primary objective. With more than 60 concerts and events to capture each summer, time management skills and a level head are a must, as is professionalism when interacting with our students, faculty, staff and audience members. Heifetz Institute Artistic Coordinators possess strong communication skills, thorough knowledge of both chamber and solo string repertoire, a background in classical music performance, and the ability to work under strict deadlines. Administrative Assistant / Festival Assistant
Positions Available: FILLED FOR 2020
A Heifetz Institute Administrative (Festival) Assistant is a motivated, responsible, and organized individual with a background in classical music and a strong interest in arts administration. Of the two assistants we will hire, one will focus on box office management, and the other on assisting faculty and visiting artists with logistics and daily needs. Our Assistant Stage Manager works with our Stage Manager to facilitate all concert operations, including dress rehearsals and sound checks, during the six-week summer Festival of Concerts (50+ concerts and events). The Assistant Stage Manager also facilitates opening and closing student performance assessments, attends regular staff meetings, and assists with outdoor events. Enjoy producing a high-level product in a high-pressure environment while working alongside some of the most prestigious names in the classical music industry, some of the most enjoyable colleagues you’ll ever know, and one of the warmest, most supportive and enthusiastic audiences anywhere in the world.

Interested in gaining hands-on experience in Arts Administration? We are seeking two Administrative Fellows to work with both our President & CEO and our Artistic Director during the festival. Ideal candidates will have a background in music and be highly organized administrators. If you are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, have excellent communication skills, are comfortable using G-Suite office applications, are sure of yourself, can take constructive criticism, can take minimal instructions and work predictively and independently, are open to being on-call, and enjoy producing high-level product in a high-pressure environment while learning from working closely with top-level administrators, please send a cover letter and resume to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Staff Interns – Artistic, Administrative, Tech/Media

Our internships offer an immersive, all-in, all-hands-on deck experience working at the Institute and include involvement in nearly every aspect of our operations during the six-week summer program. Staff interns also assist with our HeifetzPEG program for exceptionally gifted young string players ages 9 – 14.
Staff internships present an excellent opportunity for students, recent graduates, or those seeking a new career path with musical backgrounds interested in arts management, multimedia production, and concert operations to broaden and deepen their experience. An important note for potential summer staff:
There are limited opportunities for time off during the seven-week employment contract period. If you know you must be away from the Institute for any reason during the summer (for a wedding or family reunion, for example) please advise us during your interview so we can plan accordingly.

Would you like to step out of the audience and step in to a supporting role behind the scenes? Volunteers are needed primarily during June, July, and August, but we also use some round-the-year help in our downtown Staunton, VA gift shop and our Heifetz On Tour activities. Our volunteers provide a variety of services, ranging from ushering at concerts to transporting our faculty and guest artists to and from regional airports during the six-week summer Festival of Concerts.
