Brian Zhan, 17, is a 2019 Heifetz Institute alum and a senior at the Charlotte Country Day School. He has played violin for 13 years and is currently studying with Professor Ara Gregorian at the East Carolina University. Brian was the assistant concertmaster of the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra, and he is currently in the Youth Orchestra of Charlotte. In 2017 and 2018, he was a runner up in the Symphony Guild of Charlotte’s Young Artists Competition in both the junior and senior division. In 2019, he was selected as a finalist in the Hilton Head Concerto Competition. Brian has also served as associate concertmaster and concertmaster in the Western Regionals Orchestra, concertmaster of the North Carolina All-State Orchestra, and most recently, he was selected to be a participant in the NAFME All-Nationals Symphony Orchestra in Florida. Brian Zhan has studied with renowned faculty such as Ani Kavafian, Elmar Oliveira, Mark Kaplan, Bela Horvath, Kikuei Ikeda, and Kimberly Fischer.
