Yiming Mao first attended the Heifetz Institute in 2017. He began studying violin at the age of six in Shenzhen, China. He came to the U.S. in 2012 and began studying with Professor Kurt Sassmannshaus at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as an undergraduate student. He is currently a graduate student at the New England Conservatory of Music, where he studies with Malcolm Lowe, the concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Mao has participated in many masterclasses by artists such as Heifetz faculty members Daniel Heifetz, Mihaela Martin, Silvia Marcovici, and Ani Kavafian, In addition to studying solo repertoire he has also studied chamber music with a number of renowned teachers, including the members the Ariel Quartet, the Borromeo Quartet, the LaSalle Quartet and the Cleveland Quartet.
Yiming Mao has won numerous competitions, including The Hong Kong International Music Festival Competition, the CCM Concerto Competition, and the China Youth Violin Competition.
