The Heifetz International Music Institute’s summer program takes place on the campus of Mary Baldwin Univeristy, nestled in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in Staunton, VA. Named “one of the best small towns in America” by Smithsonian magazine, Staunton is wonderfully walkable and boasts a bustling arts and culture scene, along with the best of the best in book stores, boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, the Heifetz Institute headquarters and gift shop, and (most importantly?) ice cream parlors.
The Mary Baldwin Univeristy campus provides breathtaking views of the town and bordering mountain ranges, as well as the perfect settings for classes, meals, dorm life, and performances. Our primary concert venue is Francis Auditorium at MBU, which received fresh seating, lighting, carpeting and other updates in 2016. Monday concerts at noon are also held in the unique and intimate setting of the Temple House of Israel or at the iconic Blackfriars Playhouse, home of the renowned American Shakespeare Center. Our “Heifetz Hootenannies” take place “under the big Heifetz Tent” on MBU’s Page Terrace.
